Personal Notes and Information

I have done some research on this Sand Boa specie. I have not found much,

but this is what information I have found.

Females get about 24" long, rarely exceeding this length. Males rarely exceed 18".

Females are at a breeding age when they are about 4 years old. males is about 3 years.

I have found information that they will breed Biennially (every two years).

I have also found information indicating Burmation may be required for them to breed. A temperature of 50°F from November to January was suggested. I have not found much information on how many young they produce, but have found 6-12 babies, which sounds to me appropriate. Gestation is approximately 4-6 months, but is a guess as very few people have and successfully breed them.

The variant know as Black Russian Sand Boas (Eryx miliaris nogaiorum) got their name (nogaiorum) from the area where they were first collected, Nogai Steppe of Russia.

There is a large problem with identifying Russians, as they look extremely similar to Tartar Sand Boas (Eryx tataricus). See Tartar Sand Boa Page.
